Unemployment

                                                Unemployment

                                                                              by Norman Rivas

Unemployment was a key factor towards the fall of Rome. On wealthy land farming was done by slaves. Workmen who had to pay other workmen could not produce goods as cheaply as a slave owner could. Leading to workmen quitting. Slave owners could sell crops for less value. Farmer`s can`t compete with those low prices. So lots left towards the city. Thousands of men filled the city of the empire where there was not enough jobs. Emperors had to find  a way to get more food for Rome. Once an emperor got 100,000 food for the poor only!

One of the most Powerful reasons was the fall of Rome. Jobless citizens were forced to go into poverty. Most of the Farming  was done  in Latifundias which were estates. These estates were owned by rich men. Many farmers lost their jobs. Slavery labor was the greatest cause of unemployment. They were put to work and in return they got housing and food. To fix this problem Rome put a system of minimum wage, sadly it backfired. Instead of forcing employment they started to cut people's jobs, trying to lower their running cost. Businesses were paying their workers more then yielding higher priced items. Due to this almost no products were sold. Therefore workers were being cut in order for businesses to stay in business.
